The activities we carried out in class
During the first class, professor Wang explained the course rationale to students, highlighting the innovative design and uniqueness of the course.
After Professor Chen demonstrated how to use the speech corpus for English pronunciation learning, the students had the opportunity to practice in the computer room.
Students were able to systematically learn the pronunciation system of English in class. They understood the characteristics and principles of English pronunciation system and compared the differences with Chinese pronunciation.
The course design involves many engaging activities with the assistance of speech corpus. The student was trying to identify specific pronunciation features by listening to the authentic speeches from the corpus.
At the beginning of the course, every student recorded their reading of two English passages. They recorded their reading again after all the training sessions had finished, in order to contrast and analyze their progress in English pronunciation.
